Cristiano Ronaldo one goal from Hugo Sánchez's league tally
As part of his relentless quest to break every record in sight, the latest Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo is gunning to surpass is none other than Hugo Sánchez.
The Portuguese forward is just one goal away from matching the Mexican's 164 league goals for the club, albeit having racked up the tally at a much faster pace. Ronaldo currently has 163 goals in 148 'La Liga' matches, i.e. a strike rate of over one goal a game.
Once he tops Sánchez, CR7 will become the club's fourth highest goalscorer in the league, behind Santillana (186), whom he could overtake this season; Di Stéfano (216) and Raúl (228).
Cristiano is also within touching distance of setting a new record at international level. If he has his shooting boots on during the World Cup play-off double-header against Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Sweden, not only could he fire his country to Brazil, but he could also become his country's all-time top goalscorer.
Having left the legendary Eusebio in his wake, CR7 is now just four goals shy of Pauleta's record total of 47.
